Calvin Klein has released its second unisex fragrance CK2. 21 years ago the popular CK One fragrance was launched. Being a first of its kind, CK one made headlines being the world’s first unisex fragrance. The rebirth of the no gender eau de toilette couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. With the immense public support of social issues such as Gay marriage rights, transgender people and the boycott of gender roles all recently highlighted in the media. In my opinion it seems as though launching a gender free fragrance in 2016 symbolizes the current shift in our societies gender norms.

CK2 eau de toilette fragrance has an absolutely divine blend of green, full body notes and florals. It is a young and fresh scent with top notes of wasabi, mandarin, violet leaf. Followed by a body of rose absolute, orris concrete and wet cobblestones. The base of the fragrance is a combination of incense, sandalwood and vetiver. My first impression of the fragrance was that it reminded me of a men’s cologne. But I wasn’t sure if my partner would wear it because it could pick up on a few fruity and floral notes. The fragrance is quite soft, once it settles into the skin and isn’t overpowering like a lot of typical colognes. To my surprise this is now my partners favorite fragrance that he wears.

The packaging has a very modern design. It reminds me of a light bulb because of the bulbous shape and transparent characteristics. There are no embellishments or elaborate elements to the design of bottle. The bottle is made of glass with a small atomiser on the top. CK2 is unique because the lid is made of a hard plastic material that doubles as a stand for the fragrance.

Overall I am a big fan of the CK2 fragrance. It has a fresh and urban scent that all genders can identify with. I think that the fragrance will be very successful 2016 and am looking forward to seeing people embrace the concept of gender free!

Lots of love,

Celia xoxo
