charcolrescuemaskThe new charcoal rescue masque by Dermalogica has been much anticipated and awaited by skincare lovers. Today I am sharing my thoughts and experience using the product.

The Dermalogica charcoal rescue masque is an easy to use, cream mask that is aimed to treat a variety of skin concerns. It comes in a 200mL tube which should last for about 12 or more mask applications. Dermalogica claims that the mask rescues tired, lacklustre and dull skin. Using Activated binchotan charcoal, sulphur and kaolin – it aims to absorb impurities and promote cell turnover for brighter skin. In simple terms…the masque is exfoliating and detoxing/cleaning your skin!

I found the charcoal rescue masque to be very true to its word. The skin was left feeling very soft, smooth and clean. However, I did feel very tight and moisture lacking due to my skin type. I didn’t notice any changes in the brightness of my skin, but I was fairly pink after removing the mask because it’s quite hard to get off. Based on my experience using this product and from analysing the ingredients I would definitely say this is unsuitable for super dry skins. Kaolin and Bentonite are very beneficial ingredients for drawing out impurities, oils and killing bacteria on the skin. Because I am fairly dry I found this mask removes too much moisture from my skin.

This mask would be a great detox mask for me to do once a month, or as a spot treatment during a breakout. But for oily skins this mask is amazing! It will work to remove dead skin cells that can clog pores, rid the skin of impurities and help control sebum production. For best use I would apply the mask for 10 minutes and rinse off in the shower, using circular motions to enhance exfoliation.

The texture of the mask was quite smooth and creamy but it contained lots of small granules that helped with exfoliation. I was a little concerned with the colour of the mask, as some black/charcoal masks stain the skin. However to my surprise it didn’t have any staining effect. The scent was similar to a pumice stone, very earthy. You can definitely smell the charcoal and sulphur content. But I actually liked that it’s not heavily fragranced because it is because artificial fragrance is the number one cause for sensitive skin.

For best results of the Dermalogica charcoal rescue masque I would apply the mask for 10 minutes and rinse off in the shower, using circular motions to enhance exfoliation. For oily skins this would be great to do twice a week and combination skins may like to use this only once every week.
